Description

This research proposal focuses on how common thyme (Thymus vulgaris) can be used in dental care. There has been more interest in natural products for dental health because some common dental treatments can have side effects or lead to antibiotic resistance. Thyme contains natural compounds like thymol and carvacrol that help kill bacteria, reduce inflammation, and prevent buildup on teeth.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the current scientific literature to see the effectiveness of thyme in preventing common oral health problems like cavities, gum disease, and bad breath. Research shows that thyme can fight bacteria such as Streptococcus mutans, which is one of the main causes of tooth decay. Some studies also suggest that thyme may work similarly to chlorhexidine, a common dental treatment.

This study reviews current research and explores how thyme could be used in everyday products like toothpaste and mouthwash. Traditional plant uses when compared to scientifically verified properties of plants often elucidate gaps in the scientific literature that needs future investigation. To education people on the effectiveness and usefulness of thyme, an educational sign was created to demonstrate its traditional and scientific properties. Overall, this research could help show that thyme is a natural, affordable option for improving oral health.
