This presentation will explore how band programs in Mississippi are handling the COVID-19 pandemic and how we could better prepare for any similar crises in the future. This pandemic has made a huge impact on almost every educational program including music. Instrumental music is a very hands-on extracurricular which can present difficult and unique hurdles in times like these. Over the recent months, band programs across the state have discovered different methods for handling the current situation. Because of this, schools have also had varying levels of success. The purpose of this presentation is to evaluate current protocols and offer ways in which band programs can continue to prosper through any crisis.
