Ethnic Minorities and Barriers to Patient Care

My project involves focusing on the various challenges minority nurses face when attempting to provide patient care in various healthcare settings in the southeastern region of the United States. The purpose of the study is to bring more awareness to the inequality of nurses in healthcare from ethnic minority backgrounds and to assist with creating a change. The study utilizes those who are presently working in the nursing profession within the state of Mississippi to determine how barriers affect and/or have affected them within both their work environment and personal lives. The data collection focuses on various aspects such as age, nursing title, years within the profession, ethnic identity, etc. The data collection is being conducted by surveying nurses at various locations within the state utilizing a tool that asks them to share their perceptions and experiences. Once all data has been retrieved, it will be compiled and assessed to view various overarching themes.
