From the Photograph Collection. Photo of the Owl statuary above Orr building at Mississipi University for Women. The Owl symbolizes wisdom. Tradition was that students threw pennies at the owl before exams in hope of gaining tthe knowledge necessary for a passing grade. (Loyal Daughters, p. 197)
