WM. P. McMAHON & SONS ARCHITECTS 411 Buder Building St. Louis, Mo. SAINT LOUIS, MO 4 OCT 11 430 PM 1938 MISS CHRISTINE SMITH 1500 UNION ST. MEMPHIS, TENN. WM. P. McMAHON & SONS 411 BUDER BUILDING Architects ST. LOUIS, MO. My Dearest Chris, I have delayed writing because I thought it best. During the last week however it has bothered me so much and seemed so unfair that old friends should quit each other that I decided to write to see if you will forgive me and continue as we were. Since I have left Memphis I have fallen into the old routine of office work and going out the same as before. You know Chris I can barely believe we were together it was fun such a short time and so suddenly done. I don't know myself how I happened to come down. I only know that I glad I did. WM. P. McMAHON & SONS 411 BUDER BUILDING Architects ST. LOUIS, MO. Since my visit I have been between the devil and the deep blue sea. But I'll come out allright. You know I looked for you most of the day following our evening but could not find you. I just wanted to get a peep at you again before leaving without letting you see me. I want to thank you for our evening Chris and I will allways remember it as one of the nicest in my life. I'm also glad that I met your mother and Sonny boy and saw the bills and wood I've read about. It was all just as I expected. The place you stayed in Memphis was just what I would expect of Christine. Martha was as planned WM. P. McMAHON & SONS 411 BUDER BUILDING Architects ST. LOUIS, MO. also. Most times when you hear a radio program the characters are enterely different then expected. The characters and setting of my southern trip were exactly as pictured except for Christine who was 100% more beautiful and sweet and interesting then ever described or expected possible. I really mean it Chris you are really one swell girl. I'm glad that you liked the hat box I bought in the store where Martha works. I hope to be able to see you again Chris and will let you know when I'm coming. Please Chris write me and forgive me and lets remain the friends we were. Ever your friend. Bern
