Jan. 8, 1944 Dear Mother, I got another box from you yesterday. The one with the peanut candy. It was the best thing I have had in a long time. I also got one from Bernice with a fruit cake and a date loaf in it. I got your letter dated Dec. 20th a couple of days ago. I got a big line of bull from Leon yesterday. He told me all about how things are in Pittsboro and I really enjoyed it. I also got one from Ed. Shannon. I made me a watch band this morning out of an old shoe. I am really proud of the job. It looks as good as a store bought one and is much stronger. I sewed the buckel from an old one on it. I also made a little leather sheath for my new knife while I was at it. I think I told you that I had turkey for Christmas dinner. We had a pretty good size hunk. Well, I'll quit now and write more. Love from Sonny Boy
