Smith Pittsboro, Miss UNITED STATES ARMY Camp Myles Standish, Mass. Dec. 22, 1943 Dear Mother, I got your good letter today and was glad to hear that things are in good shape at home. It is really cold up here but fortunatly we don't have to get out in it much. We have a little close order drill and have to police up the area every morning but most of the time we just sit around the barricks. It warmed up yesterday UNITED STATES ARMY about dinner and I thought it wasn't cold at all, so I washed a pair of coveralls and hung them out to dry. They were frozen as stiff as a board in five minutes. I wrote Vick & John Ellard letters yesterday and Dat today. I got a letter from Vick awhile back. I am glad that Daddy got the car fxed up I thought that the distrib- uter might be bad when I couldn't get it to run any UNITED STATES ARMY better by adjusting the carbur- ator. There are several boys here who can play harps and we have a time playing and singing. I am going to town tonight and try to buy me a real good harp. I think I can get one here. Tell cousin Bessie that I got her Christmas card yesterday. I also got one from Mrs. Jewel Hammon and one from Mrs. Etoyle a week or two back. We are really having a good time staying in the UNITED STATES ARMY barricks. We have two big stoves like the one in Mrs. Etoyles store and really have them hot. I have a peculier feeling that it is too good to last. When I first got my watch it lost time. When I had the glass put on it I had him set it up a little. I haven't set it since I left Fort Mead and it is still right on the dot. They censor our mail here so I can't wright much about the camp. Anyway I don't
