Bernice AFTER FIVE DAYS RETURN TO OFFICE OF MOTOR VEHICLE COMMISSIONER STATE OF MISSISSIPPI JACKSON Lee Trial Mae at MSCW Miss Martha Smith 134 Fifth Avenue McComb, Mississippi Pittsboro SEP 27 P.M. 1939 MISS. OFFICE OF MOTOR VEHICLE COMMISSIONER HOWARD DYER COMMISSIONER STATE OF MISSISSIPPI JOE B. KEITH ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER JACKSON Wednesday afternoon Dear Mollie, Mother is mad at me for not writing to you sooner. I hope you are more indulgent than she is. If I wrote as ofter and as soon as I intend to, you would receive letters from me more frequently. The sweater is very pretty. I like the color and think it is most becoming. I can wear it with the skirt to my blue suit, and I am going to get me some other skirt to wear with it. Thanks so much for it. Court Started Monday. but they haven't tried a case yet. Several have pled guilty, but that is all. I am going up to see what they are doing this afternoon Daddy will stay here all week, I guess. They have not even started picking the jury for Mr. Lee's case. I guess Mother wrote you that Criss left to take up her job yesterday. She was sent to Starkville. Bob went with her and caught a ride back I was real glad she finally got something to do. The PTA sells lunches every day during court up at Mr. Sam Cooner's store. They are trying to make enough money to get some kind of sanatary water supply for the kids. The teachers seem to be really nice people. Maybe they will have a good school. I guess mother told you about Ligon H. leaving home, he is over at Mack Flanagan's working. Mack's Wife is going to have triplets. That will make him seven children in three years. Bob Young was figuring out the average per year when I saw him up town this morning. Bob says that the reason they are so long putting up the mail here every morning is that they candle it just like they do eggs. Not to see if it is fresh but to see if there is any scandle or news. OFFICE OF MOTOR VEHICLE COMMISSIONER HOWARD DYER COMMISSIONER STATE OF MISSISSIPPI JOE B. KEITH ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER JACKSON Mother got me a pair of stockings for my birthday. I am glad you sent the sweater instead of the book that you said you hunted for. After all I would look like hell going around wearing a book, don't you think? Well, I have to go to town to see what they are doing. Lots of love. Bernice
