Smith OFFICE OF MOTOR VEHICLE COMMISSIONER HOWARD DYER COMMISSIONER STATE OF MISSISSIPPI JOE B. KEITH ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER JACKSON Tuesday night Dear Chris, I guess you've almost decided you don't have a mother. I really should have written Sunday but had company both afternoon and night. Yesterday was a busy day and I postponed writing again. I was certainly glad to get your letter this morning. I hope you found the job and that you'll like it. I can't keep from worrying about you knowing that your funds are so low now, I do hope you can work for awhile and get what you want and like. Dr. Creekmore & Miss Ellen came up Sunday also Ed and Nora came for a short while. I enjoyed them being here I think I wrote you that Edward was a candidate for Supervisor in Beat 1. They are all in such high spirits about it. I guess Edward will be elected. Miss Ellen begged me to come down some day and spend the day. If I can snatch a ride some day I think I shall go. Sonny Boy has gone to Bruce to some kind of a traveling stage show. A truck full went. He rushed home from school and did his work early so he could go. We have a new Ford. Saturday we we went to C. City to try to get some baby chicks. Foss & DEL went with us after we got down there Dad went to see the new cars and decided to trade so we came back in the new one. We were allowed $40000 for the old one. I just wonder if we'll ever get the balance payed. If Daddy can just stay Well I won't be uneasy. He either OFFICE OF MOTOR VEHICLE COMMISSIONER HOWARD DYER COMMISSIONER STATE OF MISSISSIPPI JOE B. KEITH ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER JACKSON had to pay out a big sum for repairs or buy a new car so we decided it would pay to go ahead and get another. If nothing happens we'll have a fairly good car when his job runs out. Daddy has to do some work on the Tenn. line this week. He said he might go into Memphis one night so you might get to see him. I really doubt him doing that tho- Martha is coming home Friday week on the 24th. I suppose it must be Spring holiday for she said she would leave McComb. Thurs. afternoon and spend the night in Jackson and on home Friday. She wants to do some shopping in Jackson. Bernice has three more weeks of school. dance last Sat. I think they must have Charline went to Miss State to the spring spent a lot getting her off. Mrs. Thomp. got her a new Spring dress & hat and Foss sent her money to buy shoes etc She borrowed a swell evening dress from a cousin in Ala. I think Allie Miller and Martha must have a lot of fun together She writes most every letter about dating with her and running around a lot. They have assured Martha that she will get her place back. I had no fear of that tho. She wants to go back. I wish you could come home the weekend that Martha does. she'd be so glad to see you as well as the rest of us. They had a 3 day and night tournament here last week end. It was county Wide and there were crowds here every day, Sat. night they took in $10300 at the door and the P.T.A. sold just lots of eats and drinks the whole time - I didn't have any part in it OFFICE OF MOTOR VEHICLE COMMISSIONER HOWARD DYER COMMISSIONER STATE OF MISSISSIPPI JOE B. KEITH ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER JACKSON I'm not able to do those things anymore Joe Goar spent one night with Sonny Boy He seemed awfully glad to be here again. went to Houston to a Missionary institute last Wed. Mrs. Clark and I were all that went. We sure had a nice time and a good dinner. It's an inspiration to get away sometimes and hear such good religious talks and sermons. I got a let out of it They even showed us a movie of the Congo and some the things our missionaries were doing in Africa. They have the roof on the court house. It's begining to look like a court house. Del still has 45 of her 50 chickens and Foss got 50 more today. She says she's going to sell them and save the money to help pay Charline's expenses in school next winter. She is determined for her to go to school. Shed Byars is wanting to run for Tax assessor. Victor says he goes to C. City every day to see if he can find out how to go about it. Somebody asked him who had solicited him to run and he said- "Why, I don't guess anybody knows I'm figuring on running." So I suppose when he tells hes going to run the people will fall all over each other to get to him and ask him to run. Poor simp! The fruit trees are in full bloom now and everything is getting green. I have so much to do and nobody to help me. I don't see how I'll ever gt thru. I tire out so easily. I guess I'm just lazy and have spring fever. I have no news so I guess I'll close and listen to Fibber McGee. Chris I'm going to send you enough money to get you a pr. of shoes this weekend when Daddy gets home. As I've told you before if you need any money write a check on Daddy. Don't go hungry. Let me hear from you about the job if you accepted and all about it. Be sweet. All my love Mother
