MIZE COMMISSIONER ZULA W. BANKS ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER Monday morning 5 oclock Dear Martha This an unearthly hour to be writing a letter but it seems a very good time while Waiting for breakfast time. I didn't get any letters written last night for the following reasons- 1st. I went to s. school and had planned to write my letters when I got home. Chester begged me to go home with him for dinner so I did. 2nd about 2 oclock your Daddy came up in search of me. He had got off till this morning so came on in. We stayed over there for some time and when we got home I had to cook supper etc. After supper I wanted to talk so only wrote one letter. that was to Bernice so thats that. Daddy had to be in Grenada at 6 this morning so we were to get up at 4- I have been awake since 2 oclock and after Daddy got off I decided I couldn't go back to sleep so here I am- Clelia has been up to Memphis for a checkup xrays and physical exam. She got back Sat I don't think they had a complete report when they left but she had sinus trouble gall bladder and high blood pressure. She seemed to be feeling ok yesterday. Mary & Leon went there may help cook dinner. I'll have to deviate just here and tell you how much I wish you were here to enjoy with me a song being sung by Curly Fox and Texas Ruby. Title- "Your letter came too late" I wrote Bernice hoping to get a line from her. I haven't had but about 1 or 2 post cards since you left. I got a letter from Mae C. She's simply over come with happness with being at M.S.C.W. She's House chairman of her wing of the dorm. She's taking a new course being offered up there. It's a Pre flight areonautical of some kind. It's OFFICE OF MOTOR VEHICLE COMMISSIONER STATE OF MISSISSIPPI JACKSON FRANK F. MIZE COMMISSIONER ZULA W. BANKS ASSISTANT COMISIONER costs $50.00 a semester and she begged her Daddy to let her take it and of course he agreed. She said her Daddy wrote her that he had had a letter from Victor addressed to The "Allen Ellard tribe". That tickled her. Martha, I worry about you all the time with that cold and cough- You are so frail and drive yourself so and have no resistance. You must remember you had a positive reaction to TB test and you have scar tissue which can break down awfully easy any time. Now, what I want you to do is to go to a drug store and get you the best cod liver oil tablets they have and begin taking them and take them all the winter. You really need them and they will help you to resist those bad colds. You know you'll be having them continually if you don't do something - I know you're so stingy you hate to turn the money loose but let me tell you this if you don't tell me in your letters I'll get Friday that you have bought them (and tell the truth) I'll immediately get Mary to take me to Bruce and I'll buy you some- even tho I am so poor and haven't the money to spare but I'm going to see that you take them if I have to send them to Mrs. Smith and ask her to give them to you. Make a report please- I'm sending you Sonny Boy's letter. I jacked him up about his writing and spelling and you see he's done a little better. It amuses me that he is rooming with Harpole. Could there be two more opposites. I hope he will enjoy rooming with him and I have an idea he will. I wish he were rooming with someone who knew something about Chemistry I'm awfully afraid he'll have trouble there .Jesse was over here last night and he said it sure did give him some grief- I know most kids have had it in High school - Thats the reason it will OFFICE OF MOTOR VEHICLE COMMISSIONER STATE OF MISSISSIPPI JACKSON FRANK F. MIZE COMMISSIONER ZULA W. BANKS ASSISTANT COMISINER be so hard for S. Boy. It is all so foreign to him.- Jesse had a book I'm sending him hoping it will be the right kind. He can't do anything without a book. Jesse & Daddy have bought them a tent and are moving out from Irvin. They can do as they please then. He is a pain and I think they'll find it plesanter for them both. When they get ready to move they can do so. I think Daddy & Jesse are big buddies. They have he iely and Jesse is very confidential with Daddy which is unusual for him. Dwight got notice he'd be called in a short time. I think he intends to join the navy - Sam Ed is too and Ed Malone & R.A. also are talking of joining the navy. They all are in the next call. I sent Christine's clothes. a few dresses and sweaters & shirts - It cost 74cts- Estelle Crowson was in town Friday and came over and visited with me a while. Fridda Fay & Billy both will finish at Ole Miss next June. Billy is making a Dr. but I guess he won't get to finish- He is 20 now. I have me two new dresses to make. I got the material from Sears. 1 red checkered and 1 brown checked gingham. I'm going to shrink them good before cutting. It's about the grade of your blue checkered ones. I hav to fix. Sonny Boy's slacks. I got him two nice pair of wool ones - 1 blue and 1 brown. I had to hem them and sent them to him. It seems that I'll never get caught up so I can work on my rug. I gues tl h plenty of them After it gets cold and I have to stay in- Daddy's working day time now and I'm so glad he will be so much better off. He probably won't be home again soon so he' s working all time unless something breaks down. you don't know how I'm enjoying not having to milk a cow. I don't know where I'm going to find milk & butter. I still have some left. Chris is looking for Phil in about a week- let me know if you get the medicine - love mother
