Miss Christine Smith Columbia, Mississippi Dear Chris: Taking for granted that you are still living and doing allright...Of course I cant say as our mail for off the trick and I havent heard anything. Yesterday I was pretty sure that I was going to die, but today I know that I'm not as I feel better. Picked up a cold some place and with the weather warm and sticky I imagine that it will be hard to get rid of. Tomorrow we move to Athens, Tenn. for a few days. Expect that we will be there until Christmas at least, and possibly for a few days after. It doesnt make any particular difference as I dont expect to go home. I might have to come back here after that job is over as there is still some work to be done here. Dad and I had planned to go to Atlanta for the holidays before all this mess came up but he wrote the other day that it was all off. This will be the first Christ- mas that I have been away from home, but suppose that I had might as well get used to the idea. It will seem pretty empty for he and I both, but we are about to accustome ourselves to that. Sis wrote the other day saying that I should spend it with her in St. Augustine as this is the last one for Beth, as she is old enough now to know the difference. There's really not much to say. It's a pretty Saturday morning and I happened to be thinking about you. I hope that it is pretty where you are, and expect that it is as you are in a more or less tropical spot. I hope that you have a hell of a nice Christmas, and remember I'll be thinking about you. I love you Chris, B Dec. 20, 1941 Scottsville, Ky.
