Phil Mitchell Dec. 3 6 PM 1941 Miss Christine Smith c/o Works Projects Administration Columbia, Mississippi Tuesday Night December 2- 1941 Darling, Received your sweet letter tonight and do in all serious- ness agree that I should write just once in a while. For the past two weeks though I've worked as hard physically and mentally as I did in Atlanta when Jim and I first opened our liquor stores. Can you imagine my getting up at seven, no six o'clock, in the morning and working until seven at night? Well heres the story: The Jewel Tea Company has promised me a job as route manager and then assistant branch manager of their office here provided I learn the business from bottom to top! This means that (over) I must first be a salesman etc. The offer seems to be a fair one and since I've accepted I've put everything I know behind it. Listen, since you get off a half day on Saturdays why can't you run up then? I'm sure you can get a half day off and it would be no trick at all then So far as the expense is concerned I would just be "tickled pop-eyed" to foot that as long as I was knew we would see each other. If it were possible you know I'd come down but I don't get off from work on Saturdays until around seven! Let me know about this as soon as possible. Lamar and Mary are seriously talking of going to Florida for the winter 2nd P.S. Aren't you and Jay seeing an awful lot of each other lately? (3) now. Since my prospects for the future look as bright as they do it would seem a bit foolhardy ^ for me to go however I can picture the two of us basking in the warm sunshine, playing on the beach and doing the things we really would like to do just like a bunch of kids. Maybe we should go anyway? Well enough of this nonsense. I'm sure you are bored. Your letters are wonderful! Must be off to bed Love, Phil P.S. Darling, Mary's father died last Wed. night. She is very brave about the whole thing and I believe I'd not even mention anything about it if I were you when write her. Much love PDM
