Christine Mrs. SENATOR S. H. SMITH PITTSBORO, MISS. Miss Christine Smith Rose Hill Miss JAN 17 A.M. 1938 MISS OFFICE OF MOTOR VEHICLE COMMISSIONER STATE OF MISSISSIPPPI HOWARD DYER COMMISSIONER JACKSON Sunday night JOE B. KEITH ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER Dear Chris I am only writing a note as I am in the bed. I have been real sick since Friday. Had an attack of gall stone Friday night. I had to send Sonny Boy to get Geo to get the Dr. and then he went after Chester and Celila. I didn't get any rest at all. The Dr left at 2 o clock. Yesterday I thought I was getting along alright and Dad came in late yesterday p.m. Last night I had another attack and had to have the Dr. give me another shot of morphine. I feel a little better tonight but I'm so afraid I'll have another spell tonight. If I do. Dad will take me somewhere tomorrow for another exam, possibly Grenada and it may end in an operation. If I can possibly keep it I won't have that and I do hope I get by tonight alright. If I do I'll feel alright tomorrow. Martha wrote me that she wasn't going to the Senior dance one the 29th because she would have to have some shoes besides the other $400- If you and Bernice will send her $200 each I'll pay for the shoes. I've written Bernice I want her to go and I know she'd enjoy it and if you all send her the $200 each she wont mind spending enough for some shoes. I'll write or have someone write you not later than tomorrow night how I'm getting along. I'll be ok if I miss having a fit tonight. I was glad to get your letter and I'll write you a long one when I get up. I don't think I'd ever crawl in that Lewis' car again Love from Mother
