Mar 22 1937 Miss. Miss Martha Smith Box 888 College Station Columbus Miss. Sunday Night Dearest Girls, I'm not going to write you a long letter tonight as you're going to be home in a few days. We went to church today. There was a big crowd there and we had an awfully good Easter sermon. Bernice went to Oxford yesterday afternoon and took the exam. Daddy and I went with her. She said it wasn't so hard. It lasted from 2 oclock till 5:30. Dad and I rode around and sat in the car and watched the poor white trash and negros parade by It was much worse than Bruce Saturday's. Do you come home Friday or Sat and how do you plan to come? Martha, I didn't order your corduroy because I didn't know just how much to get and you can get a linen suit or anything else you might want. I looked in the stores at Oxford but I've never seen such a bum place to trade. They simply had nothing- Aunt Allie is still here, we went riding this afternoon She had a good time. Victor came over here last night and we sat up till nearly midnight Chester, Dwight and wives came Friday night. Tomorrow is circuit court. I'll have the jockey's for company. There are really having school till 12:30 so I guess Bernice will spent her afternoon at court- I saw a notice of Mary Evans Hutch's wedding in today's paper. She surely is ugly. I got a card from Annie Boy telling me of Mary Frances' baby that came the 20th It's a boy, and they are all tickled to death. Sonny Boy spent the day with the Gran's today. He said Gilbert was stewed. He's getting in good condition for court as usual. We've been hearing that Charlie Mitchell and Corinne Bryant was going to get married. He has had flu all last week and Elizabeth has been teaching for him. They have re elected all the teachers. Bernice isn't going to keep her place if she can do any better. Christine, I wrote Jay to see if she knew Jimmie May's name and address. Jennie Hamilton is going to get married to a Mr. J.R. Taylor. Cliffie's first husbands Daddy. He has a business in Memphis and she is coming there to get married. She wrote Aunt Ollie all about it. Martha, Bro Clark is very anxious to read "Uncle Tom's Cabin" and I want you or Christine to get some girl who is staying over for the holidays to check it out and bring it home with you. He can't find it anywhere around here. Martha H. has had the flu. Bernice, Charline Mary & Elizabeth went to Leolio' fashion show Wed. night She said the girls who modeled, were very awkward I am about to go to bed even tho it is only 8:30. Hope these few lines find you well in health if not in mind I'll be seein you Lots of love Mom
