Box 3 Pittsboro, Miss Miss Martha Josephine Smith College Station Box 888- Columbus, Miss Sunday nite of course Dearest Girls, We are back from church and it's only eight oclock, so you see we don't have to listen to a long sermon for which I am thankful. He surely did preach a good sermon. We certainly hearing a good preacher once more. A big crowd was there. The P.T.A. had an oyster dinner and supper yesterday-Bernice helped all day and I last night. They made pretty good use that made me feel bad was I didn't get to eat any I was afraid to eat them so I made out with smelling of them and watching the others eat. we had a right good time. I got your good letter Chris, Thursday and yours this morning Martha, I enjoyed them both so much. I got the Spectator this week the first I'd had in a long time- I couldn't figure anything you had written we have some new radio batteries and the radio is so good. We enjoy it so much. Such good programs come over Sunday nights- The latest social affairs that the women of the WMU are having is quiltings. Mrs. Lane had over all day one Friday - She cooked 4 hens and about 6 cakes pies etc. They quilted 4 quilts as well as eat lots. Edna Beckett has also had one. I guess gossip had full sway. Daddy didn't go to Columbus this week but was in Starkville one night. Bernice is grading test papers. She wore her new outfit today and got a lot of compliments on it. We went to Dr. Creekmore's this afternoon they seemed awfully pleased to see us. Glenn was up here Friday. He got to B. Creek Wednesday He's only out on a furlough now but will really be discharged next month. He's good looking and still rather full of conceit. He wanted Dad to turn loose everything and go with him to Mize. I told him I was sure he wouldn't go as he had to be on his job and of course he wont. Sonny Boy is getting him a pig tomorrow He is very much thrilled-you will remember he is a 4 H club member Two women from Bruce, Ms. Clark, Ala, and I went to Vardaman Thursday and bought some new furniture for the parsonage. We got a 3 pc. bedroom suite, which is very pretty, a new rug, Two pretty chairs, beauty rest mattress and springs- We'll have to get busy tomorrow and raise some money. The whole bill was $6700 and our part is half- Martha, I'll be glad for you to take the trip to Macon if you get the chance How are you, Kate an your chum Carolyn getting along by now? I carried Mary home from church tonight and she asked me to land her $1000 to send Katherine money to buy books with. I told her that your expenses had been a lot since Xmas and that we were overdrawn last month but I would talk it over with your Daddy I had to get rid of her some way G.C. came home yesterday- Daddy is reading "Gone with the Wind" I think it's wonderful. Martha H. actually came home yesterday and spent till after dinner today. She was back in C. City by 1 o clock. We saw her walking the streets with James Robt Standdy She was really in a "dancing mood"- She never so much as bothers to speak to anybody when she's home. Bernice said she didn't speak to her at all today- I think she gets to be a bigger fool every day she lives. All she thinks about is men. Well, as news is scarce I'll bring my letter to a close. Hope this finds you both well and happy. Love and hugs Mother Chris tell Goldie Hey!
