JAN 18 A.M. 1937 MISS. Mrs. SENATOR S. H. SMITH PITTSBORO, MISS. Misses Christine & Martha Smith Box 888 College Station Columbus. Miss- 002 Sunday Night Dearest daughters How's tricks? We got our books o.k. and like them fine. Claria didnt say much about the flower but said she would wear it you know she never brags on anything any body else does. Oh yes, I believe she did brag on the way you set her hair, Martha- they came over and spent the afternoon and we talked about the sermon, which was good and about Shed and wife who were also at church. After services Martha H broke the ice and rushed up and smilingly said something to them also Strat and several of the men stopped in the porch and congratulated them among them was your father who shook hands with the bride and wished the happy couple good luck etc. Jewell held her head high and walked out and got in the ancient chevrolet with the air of a queen (she didn't speak to them) The Bride has given her little baby to her mother so Shed wont have to act as step father. He appears to be one of the happiest young men I have ever seen. Pittsboro certainly hasn't lacked for something to talk about for the past week. All the girls and Mrs Bryan are awfully mad about it. Shed has carried her down to see his mother twice already. I can't find out how the reception went off. Bernice and I made some divinity candy which we meant to send you all some but it is so soft we're com- pelled to eat it with spoon. We put hickory nut meats in it. I'm sorry we can't send you any. How are the exams? I've thought of you and how hard you're studying. I feel like you will make it fine. Bernice & I went with the Ellard's to C. City yesterday. B. had her hair washed and set and we sat in the car and just watched the crowd go by. It was a lot of fun. We have formed a habit of going every Sat. so we get to see lots of our friends each time. Bernice is still planning her trip to Memphis Sat. She is going to get Elizabeth to teach for her and she will go on the train to Tupelo this afternoon and they will spend the night with Nancies Aunt there They will leave on the bus early Sat morning and get in there by 9 oclock see the opera that p.m. and back to Tupelo that night on home Sunday p.m. Bernice hopes to have time to get her a suit etc. I heard Truman got drunk during Xmas He is getting wicked since he has become a college man. I knew when I saw that look on his face at church that he had gotten bad. Mr. Yancy has bought an half interest in Allen Strain's 10 ct store and Mrs. Yancy works over there now. J. W. Williams gave Ava B. a bath robe for a xmas presents and the bill was sin the pocket. They didn't say what it cost. Minnine Lee is Recreation Leader for this community and she puts on her programs at the WMU meetings so we don't get to enjoy the recreation programs. Les and Lois have moved back home at last and I hope everything goes all right with them from now on. They are in the house with Johnnie Calder, I hope they dont fight, I mean Estelle and Lois. I am in a hurry as Daddy has gone to George's and I'm determined that he shan't go out there without me hearing what they are talking about. Ive went to Bessie's but didn't hear any news. We listened to Chase and Sanborn's hour and then came back. It's bed time now were turning in. Excuse bad letter no news - Hope you finish up your tests without trouble and dont try to write till you get this. Love Mother Martha, I saw Polly Wilbanks picture in the paper today
