SenatorMrs. S. H. Smith PITTSBORO, MISS. Miss Christine Smith Box 888 M.S.C.W. Columbus, Miss. I was just as happy as you were over the prospects of your going to Miss. State and have never said otherwise. I know it means a lot to mix and meet people outside your own little sphere. I realize that form my own experience for I've nver had the privilage myself that many have. That was the reason I gladly consented to your going to summer school. I wanted you to meet new people and I felt that it would be a great help to you. Now please get this idea that I'm objecting to a trip anytime you get a chance, out of your system and too try not to be so sensitive I've been tyring to passify sensitive people for 23 years. I've been sick with a headache but have managed to keep busy. Monday a few of us borrowed Roy Beckett's car and went to all the Methodist's and got the preachers family a nice pounding. They seemed to appreciate of course if I hadn't worked it up it wouldn't have bee done. Then I decided we'd buy some new furniture. for the parsonage. So I began talking that (this isnt conceit but just facts) up and we drove to Bruce and asked the ladies there to help us so they agreed. We came back and got Roy Beckett to order us about a $6000 order wholesale price. We ordered a 4 pc. bedroom suit princess dresser & stool dresser and chifforobe two preety rockers and a longoleum rug. This will be here in a day or two and we're going to be so proud of it and I'm sure it will be quite a surprise for Bro and Mrs. Clark. There are six in his family - His two nieces went to school at Leland last year and year before. They stayed with an Aunt- they said they knew Charlyne real well. This afternoon Say and I got Morgan's car and made a tour for Heus to make our first payment on the furniture. We made a pretty good haul- Tomorrow I must iron and clean house that has been neglected all the week. We have asked Dwight and Elizabeth to have Thanksgiving dinner with us. I had never had them and felt that I should so decided that would be a good time. Clelia and Chester have gone to Jackson. She is getting to be being quite a city lady as she goes with Chester every time he goes. Daddy has been gone almost 3 weeks and he's crazy to come home. He plans to be here Thanksgiving I don't guess he'll get to stay but a day or so. I made Mrs. Anna Walker a dress this morning. I'm sure she will look beautiful when she dons it. The little football team went to Big Creek to play today Sonny Boy went but didn't play this time. Gilbert has been drunk for two solid weeks Poor old Mary looks worse every day. G. C. is wanting to come home. I guess he thinks Clarksdale school isn't all play. Mary has made Kathryn a black satin evening dress. Kathleen is going to Blue Mt. this week end to see the Junior-Fresh wedding. Ruby Nell is one of the groomsmen. Well, I must quit and write to Daddy I get a letter from him every tow or three days Chris, I think it would be awfully nice for you to get Chick's car. It's sweet of him to offer it to you - I'll not write Sunday unless I change my mind. Worlds of love- Mother
