Miss Christine Smith Box 888 M.S.C.W. Columbus, Miss. Sunday nite Dearest Girls, How are you liking this rain? I'm very glad of it because it's so dusty and dry here. We went to church at the Babtist church today. Ruby Nell + Mary Knox were home for the weekend but Ruby Nell didn't get in till dark Sat night on the bus Her work is fixed so that she can't get off ut until Sat pm. This is the only time she's come home. The bus is very handy for her as it came straight thru. Did I write you Charlcie had had her tonsils removed? Bernice went to see her this afternoon She's fine and come in the car to town. She's looking for her beau from Ark. next Sunday Bernice & I went with Chester + Clelia to C. City yesterday. Bernice got her a pretty little brown hat with a veil from Leolis'. She wore it and her new dress today I bought some sausage which made me sick. Bernice also had Mr. Cole to order her enough pretty thread to make her bedspread. It will cost her $750 She has found her a beautiful design and has worked it out. Daddy will be home Tues. and has to go to Jackson Wed. He has been transferred to Biloxi or has orders to go there the 1st of Nov. I'm crazy to go down there while he's there but I haven't been able to figure out a way to get off yet. It's so far and I'd have to stay longer than I ought to be away. And I can't see how Bernice + Sonny Boy could manage if I could just get somebody to stay with them. Martha, you sure sent plenty of ribbon I could have managed on half That amount. It's pretty. I'm anxious to see your coat I hope it isn't too large. Bernice went with the ball girls to Randolph to play Friday night, the boys played also. The whole bunch went in a closed school truck and both teams were defeated. They're coming down here and play Sat week. The basket ball courts are on the tennis courts so it's right handy for me to attend isn't it? Bernice is going to see Roy Beckett tomorrow about a radio She has decided to go on and get her a battery set as it seems that the TVA isn't omgin If it does come she can trade it back in on another- We're anxious to have it so as to get the election news. If Roosevelt isnt elected (and it seems very doubtful) we'll never get any lights as the Republicans will tear up everything that has been done, and we'll be almost slaves. Was the cake alright Martha? I was afraid the filling would stick as I didn't cook it quite long enough. Bernice is grading papers some of them make awfully poor grades especially Roy Haman and Ligon Hannaford Roy, by the way is on the ball team Jewell is so pleased. Martha H. had on a new green outfit green shoes, Hat, gloves, purse and dress I thought it was a little too much green at one time - I think she thinks she's secretary to the President. Martha, did you ever get your material for your dress? I know it's going to be pretty. There is to be a big circus at Bruce next Saturday. It's made a lot of the bigger towns like Grenada and Houston I'm going and "take the children to see it" Christine, I enjoyed your letter several days ago you can do real well when you try. Have you ever bought you any shoes? Bernice doesn't like her brown ones in fact they're cheap and cheap looking. She's going to get her some more. Bob Young has been out for the week- end and brought 3 of his pupils, boys about 14 yrs. old. He carried them to the hotel. Sonny Boy + several more of the kids went possum hunting with them last night. The caught one but he said the delta boy gave out from climbings hills and soon got enough. Sonny Boy went home with Gordon Jr. today for dinner He had a good time and brought back some grapes which were very good. Both news and paper are giving out so I'm quitting Write me all the news and what you plan to do about your trip Chris. I think it would be nice if you care to go. Goodnight with love, Mother
