I returned from Gulfport - 10:30 PM. last night - had a fairly good time but as I write on card wish I had come home Left Sat Morning 7 - arrived Gulfport 12- busses carried us out to "Old Iron Sides" 1 PM. I enjoyed looking over the historic old Ship - the Captain reported - on an average of 8000 people per day had been to see the ship - since anchoring at Gulfport - and that near two million had been aboard in something like a year. They charge 5 cts for the general public to go aboard - everything was free to us on the trip except hotel Mississippi State Senate COMMITTEEE ASSIGNMENTS Executive Contingent Fund, Chairman Pensions, Vice-Chairman SENATOR S.H. SMITH Registrations and Elections Thirty-First District Roads, Ferris and Bridges Pittsboro Temperance Military Finance JACKSON bills - Jo, Dick and I had rooms at Great Southern - Sat and Sun - only cost was $150 each - but the food bill any where on the coast is outrageous about twice the price of "Jaxon" I paid 70 cts for grape fruit coffee - bacon and hot cakes -sauce would be 35 cts here - Had banquet Sat night just the usual banquet "no half chickens half cooked however" fish schrimp and oyster constituted the meats I enjoyed that [illegible] for boat ride Sun morning but a squall and heavy rain came up first as we went aboard the little revenue cutter and the sea became so rough - boat would not leave the bay for open sea - Mississippi State Senate COMMITTEE ASSINGMENTS Executive Contingent Fund, Chairman Pensions, Vice-Chairman SENATOR S.H.
